Mile-long runway race to benefit airport museum

The inaugural Museum Mile is set for Nov. 11 at Freeman Municipal Airport, 1025 A Ave., Seymour.

The mile-long airport runway foot race was proposed by Jim Noelker to benefit the Freeman Army Airfield Museum, which preserves, protects and displays artifacts from the World War II era when Freeman Army Airfield served as a training base for the U.S. Army Air Corps.

The race will require closing Runway 5/23 from 8 a.m. until noon. An effort is being made to keep Runway 14/32 open.

Heats, which will be managed by Indiana Timing, will begin at 9 a.m. All ages of runners and walkers are welcome.

The cost to enter is $19.45. Orders for T-shirts — long- and short-sleeved — will be taken through Oct. 26, and any extras will be available for purchase the morning of the race.

Preregistration is available online at qrco.de/mm523, and in-person registration will be available the morning of the race.
