Mackeys celebrate 70 years of marriage

Cletus and Luella Mackey plan to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary at home planned by the family.

The Mackeys were married Oct. 10, 1953, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Seymour with Father Minta officiating.

Cletus was born and raised in Seymour, and he and the former Luella Jenkins are longtime residents of Seymour. They raised their three children, William Mackey, Philip Mackey and Thomas Mackey, in Seymour. All three of their children graduated from Seymour High School.

He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort MacArthur near Los Angeles, California, where he met Luella in the early 1950s. Upon his discharge from the Army, Cletus and Luella moved to Seymour and were married in 1953.

Cletus was employed by Deputy Electronics and Luella was employed by Seymour Community Schools before they both retired.

The couple also have three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
