A Brownstown police officer was arrested Wednesday afternoon after an incident involving battery and false informing over the weekend in Seymour.

Michael Jeremy Huff, 38, of Brownstown was arrested for battery, a Class A misdemeanor, and false informing, a Class B misdemeanor.

On Saturday, patrol officers with the Seymour Police Department responded to the 600 block of East Seventh Street in reference to a battery complaint, according to a news release from Lt. C.J. Foster.

When officers arrived at the location, they determined the incident had taken place in the 700 block of Hustedt Street.

The Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office told investigators it intends to file charges of battery and false informing reference the incident, Foster said.

The victim told patrol officers she had been battered, which resulted in a complaint of pain, Foster said. That led to the arrest of Huff, who was booked into the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown at 2:13 p.m. Tuesday.

Brownstown Police Chief Tom Hanner told The Tribune on Wednesday afternoon that Huff was placed on paid administrative leave once Hanner was made aware that the case was being investigated and before Huff was to report to duty on his next shift.

Huff joined the Brownstown Police Department on Feb. 28, 2022.
