Braves looking to bounce back after Jackson Bowl; Face Madison in Week 6

Brownstown Central comes off its first loss of the season to Class 5A Seymour, looking to get back on track against Madison on Friday.

The Braves are still in solid position, sitting at 5-1 with three games remaining before postseason play. Madison is sitting at 1-5, looking to make a huge upset over Brownstown.

Braves head coach Reed May spoke on the upcoming matchup with the Cubs.

“They’re struggling this season. Hopefully, it’s a game that we can get back on the winning track,” he said. “We need to stay disciplined and get back in the win column, getting back on track for the rest of the season and sectional. Madison also runs the Wing T, so we should be somewhat prepared for their offense. I think we need to do our jobs and stay focused, and we should be fine.”

After Madison, Brownstown will host Silver Creek before traveling to Scottsburg in the final week. May knows the final stretch will be critical for the Braves down the road.

“We always have certain goals. Our first goal was to beat Seymour, and we didn’t accomplish that.” May said. “Our second goal is to have a winning season. That’s probably going to happen. Our next goal is to win the conference. We will have to continue working hard at these goals if we want to achieve them.”

Silver Creek has only one loss in the Mid-Southern Conference, while Brownstown is sitting at 5-0.

“They are a tough team. It will be a battle that we must be prepared for,” May said. “They always do some things well.”

The team then will face the Warriors, looking to avenge the 2022 loss to Scottsburg, which ended 23-14.

“Scottsburg also beat us last year, which still has the team a little sour,” May said. “Obviously, we want to keep getting better each and every day to prepare for each game. Heading into sectional is always tough, especially when you have three top-10 2A teams in our sectional.”

Brownstown, Triton Central and Indianapolis Scecina are all in the top-ten of the class in Class 2A Sectional 39.

The Braves did not have players of the week with the loss.
