The Trinity Lutheran boys tennis team hosted the Austin Eagles on Monday, dropping the matchup in a tough 3-2 loss.

The Cougars have a chance to bounce back tonight when they host Edinburgh on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m.

“We definitely had our chances against the Eagles,” Trinity head coach Brad Emerson said.

“It’s been a grind with the amount of matches we have had in the past week.”

The match with Austin was the 5th event the team has competed in since Sept. 11th, including three matches over the weekend on Saturday.

Trinity No. 1, Solomon Hall defeated Xander Richie, winning 6-3, and 6-2. That would be the only singles win for the Cougars in the meeting.

Javen Smith of Austin downed Jack Stuckwisch, 6-2, and 6-4. Grayson Squires took the final singles contest for the Eagles, winning the matchup with Luke Shepman, 6-1, and 6-4.

In doubles, Nathan Finke and Jonathan Naewedde of Trinity secured a win over Brayden Furnish and Brooks Swank. The duo won the contest, 6-3, and 6-4.

Drew Kerkhof and Wil Gausman would drop the match in the second doubles game. Carson Swank and Orlando Nease defeated Kerkhof and Gausman, 6-2, 6-7, and 2-6.

“We also had some injuries throughout the week so we had to adjust the lineup,” Emerson said.

“I think the boys have played well over the stretch, it’s just a lot of matches over a seven-day period.”

The home stretch of the season is looming with a few games left. Trinity finishes the final two games of the season, hosting Southwestern on Thursday at 5:00 p.m.

The Cougars then host the Lutheran High School of Indianapolis on Monday, Sept. 25th at 5:30 p.m. Trinity will then prepare for postseason play at Seymour High School.

The meeting is scheduled for Sept. 26th to Sept. 30th. Times will be posted when they are announced.
