Firefighters respond to dryer malfunction at Seymour fertilizer plant

Seymour firefighters were able to quickly extinguish a fire Monday morning at a fertilizer plant on the city’s east side.

The response came after dispatch received a report of a dryer malfunction and smoke coming from The Andersons fertilizer distribution plant at 101 Agrico Lane in Seymour.

Steve Labordus, director of operations at The Andersons, said the area where the dryer malfunctioned did not contain any flammable material.

“All protocols were followed, and everyone is accounted for with no injuries,” he said.

Officer Chris McCoy with the Seymour Police Department said it’s always good to be able in situations like these to keep things under control before they get out of hand.
