Cross country

Brownstown and Crothersville

The Braves and Tigers competed in the 44th annual Eastern (Pekin) High School Cross Country Invitational on Tuesday.

The Braves took the top spot in the team scores with 49 with Crothersville finishing fifth on the boys side.

Dirk Crater took the top spot in the race for Crothersville, winning the race with a time of 17:20. Other Crothersville runners included Koby Davis, who finished 17th, Beau Napier in 28th, Kaleb Moeller in 35th and Brayden Heath in 38th. Corey Reynolds and Gage Howard finished in 66th and 67th.

The Braves were led by Chance and Shane Ratliff, who finished in third and fourth place for Brownstown Central. Traven Wellman followed in 11th, Eli Crockett finished in 15th, Damien Owens in 19th and Garrett Driver in 22nd. Brady Blann finished in 56th for the Braves.

Brownstown also won the girls race with a score of 40, edging out Borden and Charlestown. The Braves had four consecutive finishes with Cambell Shasteen in seventh, Trinity Cody in eighth, Tori Lokey in ninth and Kelsey Schneider in 10th. Riley Pumphrey finished in 20th, and Chelsie Combs ended the race in 27th for Brownstown.

Volleyball

Crothersville

The Tigers hoste South Central on Thursday.

Crothersville took the first set 25-23 but dropped the second set 23-25. The Tigers bounced back to win the third set 25-12. The match went to a fifth and final set after South Central dominated the fourth set, winning 25-10. Crothersville didn’t panic, securing the win in the fifth set, edging South Central 15-12.

The JV team also competed against South Central, defeating the opponents in two sets, 25-21, 25-21.

Trinity Lutheran

The Cougars played at Silver Creek on Thursday, dropping the matchup in three sets, 25-20, 25-14, 25-18.

Trinity Lutheran fell to 10-9 on the volleyball season.

Addie Darlage led the team in assists with 21, and Laura Roeder followed with nine in the loss. Roeder led in digs with 16, Carson Bowling and Madison Keith both recorded nine, while Darlage had eight for the Cougars.

Boys tennis

Trinity Lutheran

The Trinity Lutheran boys tennis team went on the road to Hauser on Thursday to face the Jets. Trinity took the win 3-2, sweeping the singles matches to secure the victory.

Cougars No. 1 Solomon Hall defeated Kameron Blair 7-5, 6-3. No. 2 Jonathan Neawedde dominated Jentzen Bechtel, winning 6-1, 6-0. Nathan Finke then won the third match over Jayden Blair 6-1, 6-2.

In doubles action, Hauser No. 1 Caleb Wallace and Hunter Pappano defeated Drew Kerkhof and Will Gausman 6-1, 6-1. In the second match, Colton Hatton and R.J. Foster of Hauser downed Luke Schepman and Evan Abbott, winning, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (5).

Trinity improves to 7-5 on the season and travels to Columbus East to compete on Saturday at 9 a.m.

Brownstown Central

The Braves boys tennis team was also in action on Thursday against Eastern (Pekin), hosting the Musketeers. Brownstown took care of business, sweeping the match 5-0 to improve to 8-5 on the year.

No. 1 Smith Hackman downed Dustin Costin, winning 6-0, 6-1. No. 2 Pierson Wheeler defeated Caden Lougmiller 6-1, 6-0. No. 3 Chase Brock swept Nolan Schmidt 6-0, 6-0.

The Braves continued their success in the doubles contests, winning both matches. Lane Steward and Evan Schneider defeated Alex Fleming and Boone Miller 6-1, 6-1. Brady Davis and Max Peters finished the job against Hayden Lewis and Anthony Schean, winning 6-3 in both sets. Brownstown travels to Scottsburg on Saturday to compete in their invitational at 9 a.m.

Boys soccer

Seymour

The Owls didn’t have an issue scoring against Madison on Thursday evening.

Seymour hung six goals on the opposition in a 6-2 win.

Myles Chandler scored in the 10th minute, Juan Fernandez then scored in the 31st minute. Martin Sebastian then scored in the 45th with David Polbito following with a score in the 46th minute. Jaret Dominguez scored in the 67th minute with Bartolome Sebastian finishing the scoring with a goal in the 73rd minute.

Goalie Lance Hubbard racked up five saves protecting the net for the Owls.

Seymour will now face Lawrenceburg on Saturday. JV starts at 10 a.m. with varsity following at 11:30 a.m.
