Owls defeat Stars 2-0

The Seymour girls soccer team was back in action at home Thursday against Bedford North Lawrence.

The host Owls emerged victorious over the Stars in a 2-0 win, thanks to goals from Rachel Lenart and Ella Brock. Both scores were unassisted.

“We took awhile to get moving tonight. We lacked energy early, in my opinion,” Owls head coach Greg Musser said. “We talked about trying to make sure we manufacture our own energy, and it took a half to accomplish that. We got it going and finished with a few goals to secure the win.”

The team improved to 3-8-1 and 1-2-1 in the Hoosier Hills Conference.

Elizabeth Trueblood and Cheyanne Givens both recorded a save and combined to record the second shutout of the season for the Owls.

Musser believes the team is starting to connect on the field.

“We are starting to grow. I told the girls it would take some time to figure out our team and formation,” he said. “They have been working hard at it, and we’ve seen some great growth within our system. The girls have had great attitudes in a tough stretch of games, but we are starting to play our best soccer at the right time.”

The goalkeepers have been a key piece for the Owls this season. Musser thinks they’ve done a great job so far this season.

“Our keepers have been very solid. We haven’t had many errors on the keepers’ parts in the games we’ve been conceding multiple goals,” Musser said. “I love their aggressiveness and ability to challenge the other team on the box.”

The Owls will now prepare for South Dearborn, who they face at 10 a.m. Saturday. The game will take place at South Dearborn High School.

Musser knows it will be a good game between both teams.

“They are always a tough team, and they are very well coached,” he said. “It should be a fun battle out there. I’m looking forward to our girls having another chance to compete in front of them.”

Seymour will then prepare to host Jennings County on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. The Owls then travel to Franklin on Sept. 23 for a match at 11:30 a.m.

Sectional competition is not far away, starting Oct. 3. The postseason meeting will take place at Bedford North Lawrence. More information will be announced as we get closer to the games.
