Medora dominates Seven Oaks in volleyball on Tuesday; Preparing for Orleans on Thursday

The Medora Hornets volleyball team was back in action Tuesday.

The team hosted Seven Oaks Christian Academy, looking for their fourth win of the 2023 campaign.

The Hornets started out strong, dominating in the first set, winning 25-9 to secure the early advantage.

Medora then cruised to a sweep of the Firehawks, winning the second set 25-20 before winning the final set 25-18.

“I was very pleased with how the girls played defense tonight,” head coach Hanna Hinderlider said. “That’s something that has hurt us in previous games throughout the season. Our serves were not as good as usual tonight, but we were still able to stay on top of the opponent.”

The second set started in favor of Seven Oaks, taking the early 7-1 lead, but the Hornets didn’t quit, battling back to tie the contest before winning 25-20.

The Hornets took all of the momentum from the opposition and won the third and final set to complete the sweep.

Hinderlider spoke about the total team effort in the win.

“Tuesday’s game was probably one of the better games that we played as a current team,” she said. “I’m very pleased with the improvement of all the girls as individuals and as a team. Last season, we went 2-18. This year, we are already sitting at 4-6. The improvement they have made is already showing.”

The coach was asked about some things she likes about the 2023 team.

“Most of these girls have played together for the last three to four years,” she said. “That’s nice to have because the girls know how everyone else plays and the setter knows how to set up the hitters. We have some new girls, but they have adapted well, coming in as first-time players.”

Medora still has to host Orleans on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Hinderlider spoke about the next opponent for the Hornets.

“They always seem to have a solid volleyball team,” she said. “I haven’t looked to see how they are doing this year. I’m telling the girls that we will need to be ready to go and on top of things on Thursday.”
