David Alvin Miller, age 81, of Battle Creek, Michigan, formerly of Brownstown, passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2023.

Mr. Miller graduated from Freetown High School. After graduation, he joined the Armed Forces, but he was medically discharged after Basic Training. David then went to work for Cummins, Inc., and he retired after 30 years of service in the Diesel Workers Union (DWU). After retirement, he opened and co-owned a used bookstore, The Book Place, with his sisters for 20 years. David moved from Indiana to California for four years, and then to Michigan for seven years with his long-time friend, Gene Powell.

David was an avid reader, and he enjoyed playing cards, traveling, golfing, and the “occasional” trip to the casino. He played bass in a few different bands in Jackson County, played golf on every island in Hawaii, and traveled many times to Hawaii, Tunica, Reno, and Las Vegas.

David was born on September 22, 1941, to the late Harry Dale Miller and Mary (Watkins) Miller.

He is survived by a sister, Rowena Martin of Seymour; and sister and brother-in-law, Beverly (Don) Fargo of Indianapolis; brother-in-law, Lester Neal; and several nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Florence and Ed Clore; brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Eileen Miller; sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Gale Buffenbarger; sister, Helen Neal; and sister and brother-in-law, Janet Eileen and Harry Benge.

A celebration of life will be held at the Easyville Pentecostal Church on Friday, September 8, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Spraytown Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the Easyville Pentecostal Church or Spraytown Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the caring staff of Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown.
