Seymour High School offering college fair, free financial aid night

Seymour High School will host the annual Jackson County College Fair and Free Financial Aid Night on Sept. 20 in the new cafeteria at the school, 1350 W. Second St., Seymour.

Jackson County high school students and parents are encouraged to attend to learn more about financial aid and visit nearly 40 college and military booths.

There will be an informative session from 6 to 6:30 p.m. to learn about financial aid, changes to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, the filing process and how to get information about creating an FSA ID, which is required to complete the application.

A student aid expert from INvestEd also will be available to provide information and answer questions.

Completing the FAFSA is required to determine eligibility for most student aid programs, such as the Federal Pell Grant, institutional awards and federal student and parent loans.

Following the presentation, the Jackson County College Fair will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

The fair is a resource for both underclassmen and seniors. Seniors are given an opportunity to ask questions about college applications, scholarships, housing, class size and available programs. Underclassmen and their parents are introduced to the college selection process.

Students and parents can enter SHS on Second Street from the staff parking lot and overflow parking lots at the baseball and soccer fields. College fair representatives will enter from Second Street and park in the bus lane. Accessible parking is limited to those with mobility concerns, and parking will be available at front office Door 1.

Families with questions about the event may contact Holly Cornn at 812-522-4384 or [email protected].
