Seymour

The Seymour Owls volleyball team traveled to the Avon Invitational on Saturday, competing in four games over the holiday weekend.

The girls faced Assumption, Oak Park, Carmel and Crown Point.

The Owls defeated Crown Point 25-15, 19-25, 25-21 and lost to Assumption 25-17, 25-20, Oak Park, 25-11, 25-17 and Carmel 25-15, 25-22.

Serving: Anna Fish 32-34-5. Jamie Bobb 23-24-2. Emerson Johnson 25-27-2.

Team: 149-162-16

Fish led the team in assists with 29 on the day, and Norah Campbell recorded 28 for the Owls. Jamie Bobb led in defensive digs with 25.

The team fell to 4-12 on the season. Seymour will head to Scottsburg on Thursday. The girls will face the Warriors at 5:30 p.m.

The Owls JV team also competed in the tournament, dropping all four contests.

Seymour lost to Avon by the score of 25-12 in both sets. The team lost to Carmel 25-11, 25-10, Oak Park, 25-11, 25-9 and Assumption 25-9, 25-13.

The JV team will face Scottsburg before varsity on Thursday.

Trinity Lutheran

The Cougars competed at the Barr-Reeve Invitational on Saturday.

The Cougars competed in four matches, losing to Barr-Reeve, 25-14, 22-25, 12-15 and Mater Dei 25-19, 19-25, 9-15.

The team bounced back and defeated Perry Central 25-18, 25-15 before matching up with Indianapolis Lutheran. Against the Saints, the game went the distance but in favor of the Cougars, winning 25-22, 26-24.

The team improved to 9-8 on the season after the tournament.

Trinity will get a week of rest, playing next Sept. 11 against Madison. The game will take place at Trinity Lutheran High School at 7 p.m.

Boys tennis

Brownstown Central

The Brownstown Central Braves traveled to Scottsburg on Friday to compete in boys tennis.

The Braves edged the Warriors on the court 3-2. Brownstown was able to secure the meet win with its singles matches.

Braves No. 1, Smith Hackman defeated Jace Luttrell 6-0, 6-2. No. 2 Pierson Wheeler got the job done against Jonah Capple, winning the match 6-2, 6-2. The Braves proceeded to sweep the singles matches when Lane Steward defeated Jarin Luttrell 7-5, 6-3.

In doubles action, Scottsburg won both matches. In the first match, the Warriors duo of Mason Cutter and Noah Bagwell defeated Chase Brock and Evan Schneider 6-2, 7-5. In the second match, Justin Craig and Sammy Craig beat the Braves tandem of Max Peters and Brady Davis 6-2, 7-5.

Boys soccer

Seymour

The Owls traveled to Franklin for a game of boys soccer on Saturday. Seymour dropped the matchup 4-2.

Seymour fell to 2-4-1 on the season, while Franklin improved to 5-1.

The boys will now host New Albany on Thursday at 7 p.m. They will look to pick up their second win in the Hoosier Hills Conference.

Girls soccer

Seymour

The Lady Owls traveled to Terre Haute North Vigo High School to compete in the Hoosier Cup on Friday and Saturday.

Seymour knocked off South Knox 2-1 on Friday to get to Saturday, where they faced Lawrenceburg and Mooresville. Lawrenceburg defeated the Owls 6-0, while Mooresville edged Seymour 2-1.
