James Franklin Smith, age 90, a native of Horton Township, PA and a resident of Medora, Indiana, passed away on Monday, August 7, 2023 at Meadowview Health and Rehab in Salem, Indiana. He was born on January 19, 1933 to the late Walter S. Smith and the late Mary G. (Trumbull) Smith. He was a member of the Driftwood Christian Church and served his Country proudly in the United States Army. He was a graduate of Penn State – Dubois with a Bachelors Degree in Design Engineering.

James was a quiet man that enjoyed music, especially country music with Dolly Parton and Hank Williams being among his favorites. He was a “project person”, always thriving and planning. He loved electronics and stayed current with new technology that made his music sound the best. He had a deep appreciation for food, but was very particular of what he ate and how it was prepared. James will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him and each life that he touched in his own special way.

He is survived by two sons, Roger Smith and his wife Beverly of Goldsboro, NC and Duane Smith and his significant other, Evelyn Palmer of Cochranton, PA. One sister, Dorothy Aul and her husband Keith of Kersey., PA. Three grandchildren, Michael Smith, Erika Esposito and Timothy Smith. Six great grandchildren, Ayden, Clarissa, Alina, Sofia, Raven and Riley and one great great grandchild, Koehn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife of over 56 years, Delores (Spessert) Smith, one son, Dale Smith, two brothers, William Smith and Henry Smith. Two sisters, Mary Yonkie and Betty Stauffer.

The family will receive friends in Thursday, August 10, 2023 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Christensen Family Funeral Home – Winklepleck Chapel in Brownstown, Indiana. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM with Pastor Daniel Ison officiating. He will be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery in Brownstown, Indiana with full military honors.
