Letter to the editor: Where is the FCC?

To the editor:

Automated calls made without the recipient’s consent are illegal. You must give written permission for them to call you per the Telephone Consumer Protection Act. In 2019, Congress passed the Telephone Robocall Abuse Criminal Enforcement and Deterrence Act.

I recently read a new article that the FCC had arrested and fined four large phone solicitor companies large amounts of money bragging they were protecting the American public from being bothered and harassed by them. I’m so grateful LOL.

I now have over 400 phone numbers blocked on my phone, but still, on an almost daily schedule, I receive four to eight calls from the insurance companies in league with Social Security/Medicare offering me plans. Their opening line is “You may be eligible to receive additional service not covered by Medicare.”

Why is the FCC permitting this blatant intrusion on our privacy? As the enforcement arm of the communication industry for our government, it would seem that they work for someone other than the American public. I cannot understand why our federal government permits this unless those in politically high places are receiving gifts for their political campaign to just ignore the actions of their supporters.

It is time to ask where the loyalty of these officials lies.
