Fair Diary: 10 years of showing swine

By Kiley Sons

Monday was an easy day for me.

I had to be at the fair before 8 a.m. to weigh and check in my pig. He weighed 213 pounds. His weight determines the class he will be in so he can show against pigs close to his weight.

I also received my 10-year plaque from the swine project. It’s hard to believe that we have had pigs for 10 years. We raised our own pigs until the last few years. How bittersweet it is since this is the only species that we won’t continue at home. Since I am going to another state for college, it’s just too much for my mom along with goats and sheep.

The goat barn was busy Monday evening with the myotonic and boer goat show. Congrats to all of the winners and to Dalton Lawyer, who will represent the boer goats in supreme showman.

The evening was spent with my friend, Laney. She helped me clean out the goat pens that were soaked by the rain. Tuesday is the barrow show.
