Thumbs up for July 21

One day at a time

Thumbs up to Jenet Borgman of Seymour, who recently celebrated her 100th birthday with family and friends. When asked if that was ever a goal she wanted to accomplish, the Bartholomew County native said, “Well, it wasn’t one of my greatest thinkings. I thought, ‘Take it day by day.’” Good job.

Another great run

Thumbs up to everyone who has spent the past year planning and organizing the annual Jackson County Fair, which begins its seven-day run on Sunday and ends July 29. We are sure their efforts along the efforts of the hundreds of other volunteers who show up fair week will lead to another successful week at a great county fair.

Great communicators

Thumbs up to the doctors, nurses, staff and administrators at Schneck Medical Center, which was recently named a top hospital for physician and nurse communications by Becker’s Hospital Review. Schneck was the only hospital in the region to receive this recognition. The Seymour hospital also was one of only seven in the state to be named as a top hospital for physician communications and one of only 10 as a top hospital for nurse communications.

Having a heart

Thumbs up to the staff of Shepherd Insurance in Seymour, which recently was recognized by one of its carrier partners, Acuity Insurance, with the Acuity Agents Have Heart Award. Each year, Acuity Insurance gives national recognition to an agency that displays charity and community investment.

Shining star

Thumbs up to Seymour High School’s Cory Robinson, who recently played in the Indiana Football Coaches Association Murat Shrine North/South All-Star game at Decatur Central High School on the southwest side of Indianapolis. The 2023 graduate was captain for the Owls, who went 6-4 in the fall of 2002 and claimed a share of the Hoosier Hills Conference title for the first since 2001. Robinson played right tackle for the South squad, which beat the North team 21-2. A related thumbs up to Owls coach Tyson Moore, who was selected as one of the coaches for the all-star team.

Swinging away

Thumbs up to Brownstown Central High School’s Micah Sheffer, who is competing in the Optimist International Junior Golf Championship, which started today at Trump National Doral Resort and Spa in Miami, Florida. The sophomore won the Indiana District Optimist Junior Tour at Deer Creek Golf Club in Clayton on June 16 to qualify for the international tournament.
