Trinity tennis celebrates 2023 season at awards banquet

The Trinity Lutheran girls tennis team gathered at Kovener’s Korner last Sunday to celebrate the 2023 season.

Head coach Jayme Lowe was in her first year coaching the Cougars after serving as an assistant in the previous couple seasons, and she thought her first year at the helm went well.

Trinity finished the season 8-10 and lost in the first round of sectional to Scottsburg.

“Even if it was a tough loss, I thought all of our girls played really well,” Lowe said after the season. “I was very happy. I think it really showed how they all grew over the course of the season as players. I’m very proud of everything they’ve done.”

Lowe had four individual awards to hand out while the Cougars ate some ice cream.

The first was the Cougar Award, given to the player who best demonstrates sportsmanship and represents Trinity’s values on and off the court. There were two winners of the Cougar Award, which went to both seniors Samantha Enzinger and Siddha Hall.

The next award was the most improved player award, which went to Natalee Martinez. She spent most of the season playing at No. 2 doubles alongside Emily Keller.

The final award handed out was the most valuable player award, and that was given to Drew Hubbard. She played one singles for the Cougars all season long, and she felt like she took a big jump in her game.

After playing at No. 2 singles as a freshman and sophomore, Hubbard enjoyed her first season playing as the primary No. 1.

Hall and Enzinger were the only two seniors on the roster for Trinity, which means the Cougars will be bringing back five of their seven varsity positions from this past season.

With another year to grow and another season under Lowe, the head coach is excited about the growth of the program going forward.
