Ruth Marie Malcomb Garrity, 87, of North Vernon, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving children on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at the Covered Bridge Health Campus in Seymour.

There will be a funeral service conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service. Bob Ochs will officiate. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 5, 2023, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Garrity was born December 13, 1935, in Weston, IN. She was the first daughter of Lewis Estal and Edna Frazier Malcomb. She married Malcolm Cloyce Garrity on August 12, 1956. He preceded her in death on August 26, 2001.

Mrs. Garrity retired from the Area Planning Commission of Jennings County in 1999. She had also been employed at the Purdue University Extension Office, Bakalar Air Force Base, Jennings County Welfare Office, Thomasson &Associates, and the Jennings County Schools (Foster Grandparents.)

She was a 1954 graduate of Paris Crossing High School, attended Indiana Business College, and IUPUI. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of North Vernon, Eastern Star, Kappa Delta Phi Gamma Xi Chapter, the Vernon Clionian Society, and the Hayden Extension Club. She enjoyed baking, quilting, and crafts.

She is survived by a daughter, Susan Michelle Gibson Moore of Commiskey; son, Mitchell Brian (Sherry) Garrity of Owensboro, KY; grandsons, Jarrod Malcomb Gibson of North Vernon, Shawn Michael Gibson of Commiskey, and Alexander Jordan (Lexi) Garrity; granddaughters, Morgan Elizabeth Garrity, and Lauren Briann Garrity of Owensboro, KY; step-grandchildren, Erin Zitting, and Michael Moore of North Vernon, and Crystal Latham of Owensboro, KY; great-grandchildren, August Allen Garrity, and Lily Evangeline Gibson; step great-grandchildren, Dathan Gibson, Jeremiah Boehman, and Avery Latham; sisters, Martha Faye Davis, and J. Louise Malcomb; brother, Warren H. (Betsy) Malcomb.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, May Malcomb Haney; brother, Lewis Marshall Malcomb; son in law, Randy D. Moore.

Memorials can be made through the funeral home to the Shriners Children’s Hospital, Paris Crossing High School Alumni Association, or Our Hospice of Jennings County.
