Oktoberfest seeks photo submissions

As part of the 50th anniversary of the Seymour Oktoberfest, the festival board is asking the community for help with photos throughout the years.

The 50th anniversary book will consist of memories, history and photos throughout the decades all the way back to when the Oktoberfest started in 1973.

Each time frame will have about eight pages filled with different information and photos, such as board members at the time, crafts, food, entertainment, the biergarten, contests and how the festival has evolved overtime.

The time frame will begin with 1973 to 1982, then 1983 to 1992, 1993 to 2002, 2003 to 2012 and 2013 to present day.

The Oktoberfest board is asking the community to send in any pictures from the Oktoberfest throughout the years to put in the anniversary book.

The board hopes to wrap up photo collections by July and have the books printed for distribution in September before the Oktoberfest.

Photo submissions can be made electronically at seymouroktoberfest.com/photosubmission. When uploading photos, it will ask for a first name, last name, email address and phone number of the individual submitting the photo. It also will ask to identify the year and people in the photos when possible. If there is a story behind the photo, feel free to share it, as well.

Photos also may be submitted at The Tribune office at 121 N. Chestnut St., Seymour, on the second floor. There is a drop-off box with a form for individuals to fill out describing the photo. Photos will be scanned and returned as soon as possible. Photos without a completed form will not be returned.

At least 5,000 books will be printed, but the possibility for more to be printed is still being decided. The board plans to distribute the books at the festival free of charge for the first year and then have them available for purchase at the Jackson County Visitor Center in Seymour for $5.
