What’s the name of the book and author you are recommending?

“The Final Revival of Opal & Nev” by Dawnie Walton.

What made you want to pick up this book in the first place?

My friend, January, recommended the book to me because I’m a huge music lover. On the back of the book, it is recommended by many authors I have read before, including Kiley Reid, Jason Reynolds and Ta-Nehisi Coates. It is also our current monthly book club pick for our group, Fantastic Fiction, at the library this month.

Once you got into the book, what made you want to keep reading it?

The book is written in an interview format from a journalist who has a unique connection to the band. It is mostly dialogue among the band and other characters, but once the band started to form together and they got in the studio, things started to get exciting.

Once you finished the book, what did you like about it?

It is easy to compare this book to “Daisy Jones and the Six,” but it is not focused on romantic relationships in the same way. I liked seeing the bigger picture and what was happening in the world and the dynamic relationships between many culturally different characters.

What is the book about?

The book is about an unlikely duo who form together to create a rock band in New York in the ’70s, how and why the band eventually broke up and the secrets that are revealed when the band tries to get back together for a reunion show many decades later.

Why would you recommend this book to others?

I liked the book because it is a little bit of everything: Historical fiction, drama, romance and best of all, rock and roll. The ebook and audiobook are available to borrow on Libby or you can request the book through Evergreen or at the checkout desk. If you’d like to join us for discussion, we will meet on Friday, May 19 at 11 a.m. at the Seymour Library in the meeting room.
