Crothersville woman honored by town council

CROTHERSVILLE — For Jason Hillenburg, the first item under new business on the Crothersville Town Council agenda each month is the fun part of the meeting.

That’s when the council takes time to recognize a local resident, club, organization or business with a certificate of appreciation for excellence in community service. The honor goes to an individual, group or business for being an outstanding citizen and going above and beyond to give back to the community and make it a great place to live.

For April, town resident Brenda Holzworth received the honor. She was presented a framed certificate during Tuesday night’s council meeting at the town hall.

She is a retired schoolteacher who taught at Crothersville Community Schools for 34 years. After that, she volunteered at Crothersville Elementary School as an aide and a tutor.

Holzworth also has been an active volunteer at Hamacher Hall, the town’s cultural and arts center, for more than a decade. That includes being involved with the Crothersville Historical and Cultural Arts Association.

“She is also one of our town historians,” said Hillenburg, the council’s president. “She is credited with creating Crothersville History Month (in April) and consistently contributes history articles on the town of Crothersville Facebook page.”

Holzworth also served on the town council from 2016 to 2020 and remains involved with the Crothersville Senior Citizens Center.

“We appreciate everything you do for us,” Councilman Chad Wilson said to Holzworth.

“Thank you, Brenda,” Hillenburg said.

“Thank you. That’s lovely,” Holzworth said after being presented the certificate and receiving a round of applause. “There are so many people in this town who have done so much for me, and I appreciate it so much.”
