More Easter events set for this weekend

Easter is coming up Sunday.

There are plenty of opportunities to celebrate the holiday this weekend around Jackson County.

Thursday

7 p.m.: Maundy Thursday service at First United Methodist Church, 201 E. Third St., Seymour. The Rev. Sondra Gentry of Bethel Community Church will preach. The public is invited.

Friday

Noon: Good Friday service at First United Methodist Church, 201 E. Third St., Seymour. The church’s pastor, the Rev. Teresa Poole, will preach. Following that service, a wooden cross will be carried around downtown Seymour, ending at Trinity United Methodist Church. The public is invited.

6:30 p.m.: Special worship service and pitch-in dinner for Good Friday at First Baptist Church of Crothersville, 305 E. Howard St., Crothersville. Scripture readings and music will begin at 6:30 pm, followed by a dinner in the Family Life Center. The community is invited.

Saturday

9 a.m.: The Seymour Parks and Recreation Department, 92.7 WXKU, 99.3 WZZB and Rose Acre Farms are sponsoring the annual community Easter egg hunt at Gaiser Park, 211 S. Park Drive, Seymour. The Mighty Mini Donuts food truck will be set up and the Easter bunny will be ready to take photos starting at 9 a.m. The egg hunt will be at 10 a.m. with four age groups from 0 to 12, and the grand prize for each group will be a bicycle from Guardian Bikes. Bring your own basket.

10 a.m.: Special Olympics Indiana Jackson County and the Judd family are partnering for the third year for the Tom Judd Memorial Eggstra Special Easter Egg Hunt for children and adults with special needs at the playground at Emerson Elementary School, 500 Emerson Drive, Seymour. Ages 0 to 10 at 10 a.m. and ages 11 and up at 10:30 a.m. Prizes will be given out, and the Easter bunny, Flash the miniature therapy horse and other special guests will make an appearance. Bring your own basket.

10 a.m.: Easter egg hunt at Reddington Christian Church, 10516 N. U.S. 31, Reddington.

10 a.m.: Easter egg hunt at First Baptist Church, 505 Community Drive, Seymour. There will be music, the Easter story in English and Spanish, door prizes, photos with the Easter bunny and refreshments. Bring your own basket. In case of rain, the event will be moved inside.

10 to 11 a.m.: Easter egg hunt for children up to 12 years old at Hoosier Christian Village, 621 S. Sugar St., Brownstown. There will be one grand prize-winning egg for each age group.

10 a.m. and noon: Easter egg hunts at Jackson Masonic Lodge 146, 1818 N. Ewing St., Seymour. Hot dogs, chips, cookies and drinks also will be served, and there will be a bake sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. All ages are welcome.

11 a.m.: Jackson County Sheriff’s Department’s annual Easter egg hunt in the field next to the Jackson County Jail, 150 E. State Road 250, Brownstown. There will be 8,000 filled eggs, prizes, bikes for each age group (0 to 3, 4 to 6, 7 to 9 and 10 to 12) and an appearance by the Easter bunny.

11 a.m.: Easter egg hunt at Kurtz Church of the Nazarene, 5858 N. Cleveland St., Kurtz. The Easter bunny will make an appearance, and free sack lunches will be provided.

Noon: Community Church Brownstown’s Easter egg hunt at the Jackson-Washington State Forest, 1278 E. State Road 250, Brownstown. There also will be hot dogs, hamburgers, chips and drinks. Follow the signs to the museum shelter house across from the lake.

Noon: Easter egg hunt at Medora Masonic Lodge 328, 95 N. Jackson St., Medora. Arrive early to register for prizes. There will be a drawing for bicycles, and 100 eggs will have a dollar coin enclosed. Hot dog, chips and a drink will be available for a $3 donation.

Noon: Lunch at noon and Easter egg hunt at 12:30 p.m. at Freetown Church of Christ, 7077 N. State Road 135, Freetown. Lunch is free and open to anyone who would like to attend. The egg hunt is for kids infant through fifth grade.

Noon to 1 p.m.: Easter egg hunt at Cerrowire, 1002 Industrial Way, Crothersville. The Easter bunny will be there for pictures, and the egg hunt will start at 12:15 p.m.

1 p.m.: Easter egg hunt at Seymour Christian Church, 915 Kasting Road, Seymour. Prizes will be available for kids ages 1 to 13.

2 p.m.: Freedom Fireworks’ third annual Easter egg hunt on the lawn of the Jackson County Courthouse, 111 S. Main St., Brownstown. The free event will feature 20,000 eggs filled with toys and candy and more than 100 prizes, including a drawing for boys and girls bicycles for each age group. Participants may start signing up at 11 a.m. The Easter bunny also will make an appearance for photo opportunities. The rain makeup date is April 15.

Sunday

10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.: “Jesus: An Easter Drama” at Lighthouse Tabernacle, 500 N. Armstrong St., Crothersville. There will be a drama, singing, sign language and more.

3 to 4 p.m.: Easter egg hunt at McDonald’s, 913 E. Tipton St., Seymour. There also will be prizes, and you can meet the Easter bunny.
