Karen Sue (Baker) Ryan

Karen Sue (Baker) Ryan, 59, of Seymour, IN, formerly of Springfield, IL, passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on March 8, 2023 from a short battle with lung cancer. She was born in Springfield, Illinois on December 19, 1963, to George Thomas and Margaret Sue (O’Neill) Baker. She married John K. Ryan, August 20, 2001.

She is survived by her husband, John; her daughter; Ashley (Justin) Beavers of Seymour; grandchildren; Khloe, Kash, and Karsyn. Brothers, Carl (Frances) Baker, of Jacksonville, Florida; Bob (Karen) Baker of Springfield, Illinois. Sisters, Mary (Wayne) Knight of Hustonville, Kentucky; and Jennie (Wes) Hayes of Springfield, Illinois. Sisters in Law; Marilyn (Umeeta) Ryan of Champaign, Illinois, Katy (John) Torre of Clermont, Florida, and Tonya Baker of Murphysboro, Illinois. Brother-in-Law Robert “Bobby” Ryan, and Aunt Patricia Felber of Springfield, Illinois. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews that she loved and adored.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother George “Georgie” Baker, and a brother-in-law Timothy “Mo” Ryan.

Karen was born and raised in Springfield, IL. She worked for Standard Mutual Insurance for 17 years, until they closed. Then she went on to Springfield Clinic to work as a Call Center Rep until she moved to Seymour, IN to be with her daughter and grandkids. She loved country music, watching HGTV, reading, and spending time with her grandkids. They were her pride and joy. She loved anything tie dye, that was her absolute favorite! She will be missed by everyone she leaves behind!

There will be a celebration of Karen’s life that is to be held at Burkholder Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes, 419 N. Chestnut Street, Seymour on Saturday, March 11, 2023 from 1pm-3pm. Guests are encouraged to wear tie-dye in honor of Karen. She chose to be cremated. Memorials can be made to the Don and Dana Myers Cancer Center of Schneck Medical Center, in Seymour, IN through Burkholder Chapel.

The family would like to thank Wendy, Teresa, Pam, and Jenny from Schneck Medical Center Home Health for taking such good care of Karen throughout her final days. Also, to the employees at the cancer center for all they did for her.
