VALLONIA

Eugene Paul Shoemaker, 83, of Vallonia, passed away unexpectedly in his home at 7:20 a.m. Wednesday, February 22, 2023.

Eugene was born on February 7, 1940, in Vallonia, to the late Louis &Leah (Otting) Shoemaker. On July 12, 1975, at Trinity Lutheran Church, he married Barbara Ellen (Schneider) Shoemaker and she survives in Vallonia.

Eugene was a 1958 graduate of Vallonia High School. He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was a farmer and master cattleman since early youth and had fed 30,000+ head of cattle over 70 years. Eugene was a member of the National/Indiana/Jackson County Cattleman Association, a member of the National/Indiana/Jackson County Farm Bureau, he held a director position of FSA, and a board member of Lutheran Central School. He loved antique tractors, mostly Allis Chalmers.

Survivors include his wife, Barb; sons: David Paul (Leah Belk) Shoemaker of Tucson, Arizona &Donald Andrew (Jennifer Redicker) of Vallonia; sister, Margaret Snider of Salem; grandchildren: Aston, Caelyn, &Bryton Shoemaker, Evan, Graham, Julia, &Caroline Shoemaker; sister-in-law, Lois Shoemaker.

Eugene was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Carl, Richard (Doris), Robert, James (Carolyn) Shoemaker; and a sister, Norma Turmail.

Funeral services for Eugene will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 26, 2023, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Vallonia with Pastor Jordan McKinley officiating. Friends may visit with the family at Johnson Funeral Home on Saturday, February 25, 2023, from 2:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the church. Burial will take place at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church or Lutheran Central School.
