Construction underway for Dunkin’ Donuts in Seymour

A building permit was filed with the city in January for the construction of a new commercial building, Dunkin’ Donuts, to be built at 2022 E. Tipton St., Seymour.

The location previously housed a business known as Raber Portable Storage Barns, which is now next to Azul Tequila Mexican Restaurant on U.S. 50, and before that, it was an Amoco gas station.

Ben Hamman, site superintendent of Thrive Construction LLC of Naperville, Illinois, is overseeing the construction of the new building. He has been the site superintendent in many other projects across Indiana, including the construction of a Dunkin’ Donuts in Muncie, Goshen and Marion.

The estimated cost of construction for the Dunkin’ Donuts is $1,051,000.

Hamman said footers have already been poured, and he hopes to start putting up the frame by next month if weather permits.

“The Indiana weather hasn’t been too kind, and it pushed back some of my projects before, but we always find a way through it,” Hamman said.

The Dunkin’ Donuts location will be around 2,000 square feet and have inside dining. Hamman said there are some Dunkin’ Donuts that do not offer full inside dining.

“I heard that Seymour doesn’t have a Dunkin’ Donuts, so I think it will be something different added to the town,” Hamman said.

Hamman plans to use assistance from local contractors in the area, including King’s Trucking and Excavation Inc. in Seymour, and hopes to have construction completed sometime in May.

This would be the fifth doughnut shop to make its way into Jackson County along with Best Donut #1, Donut Central, Humble Donut Co. and Linzy B’s, all in Seymour.

The franchise owner for Dunkin’ Donuts in Seymour is currently Amit Patel.

Known today as Dunkin’, the baked goods and coffee chain serves more than 50 varieties of doughnuts and dozens of premium beverages, bagels, breakfast sandwiches and other baked goods, according to dunkindonuts.com.

In 1950, Bill Rosenberg opened the first shop in Quincy, Massachusetts. Five years later, a franchise legacy was born.

Today, there are more than 11,300 Dunkin’ restaurants worldwide, including more than 8,500 in 41 states. There are also more than 3,200 international restaurants across 36 countries, according to the company website.

Dunkin’ is part of the Inspire Brands family of restaurants.
