Man arrested after leaving the scene of a personal injury wreck

A 34-year-old Scott County man faces preliminary charges related to a hit-and-run wreck early Wednesday morning on State Road 256 in Jackson County near the Scott County line, police report.

Brian David Davis Jr. of Austin faces a Level 5 felony charge of operating while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury and a Level 6 felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident causing serious bodily injury, according to a news release from Jackson County Sheriff Rick Meyer.

The charges against Davis stem from a personal injury wreck reported at about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday on State Road 256.

Officers responding to the crash found personnel with Jackson County Emergency Medical Services treating a male motorist for head trauma and internal injuries, Meyer said. The male told police he had been driving east on State Road 256 when his vehicle was struck from behind by a motorist in a second vehicle who left the scene.

Meyer said officers at the scene, including county officers Scott Arnold and Conner Emily and Crothersville Officer Mark Reynolds, found a box with a name and an address, debris from a white vehicle and a Dodge Ram grill.

Arnold and officers with the Scott County Sheriff’s Department went to an address in the 3000 block of North Thompson Road in Austin to look for the white Dodge Ram, Meyer said.

He said officers found a white Dodge ram with front-end damage in the driveway of a residence and a trail of blood leading to the front door of that home.

Inside the home, they found Davis, who showed obvious signs of being injured, Meyer said.

He said Davis admitted to police that he had been in an accident and left the scene.

Davis was taken to Schneck Medical Center in Seymour for a blood draw and later booked into the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown at 8:52 a.m. Wednesday. He was being held without bond pending his initial hearing.

The male driver who was struck was taken to Scott Memorial Health in Scottsburg and then transported to University of Louisville Hospital.
