Jackson County under travel advisory warning

The Jackson County Commissioners have issued a travel advisory warning for Jackson County.

The highest level of the local travel advisory means travel may be restricted to emergency management workers only.

Individuals are directed to refrain from all travel, comply with necessary emergency measures, cooperate with public officials and disaster services forces in executing emergency operations plans and obey and comply with the lawful directions of properly identified officers.

The commissioners’ declaration does not prohibit individuals engaged in employment necessary to maintain a safe rail system, restore a public utility or provide any other emergency public service from traveling within the county during this local disaster
emergency.

A significant winter storm will impact the state through Saturday. Behind this front, temperatures will drop 30-plus degrees, freezing prior to rain/drizzle, immediately leading to travel difficulties.

A flash freeze of drizzle and a quick change to heavy snowfall will create a sudden drop
in travel conditions this evening. High winds, extreme cold and light snowfall
along with blowing and drifting snow also will make travel difficult Friday.

The flash freeze along with the snow followed by high winds will create hazardous driving
conditions. The high winds will create near-blizzard-like conditions, making clearing the
roadways difficult.

The advisory remains in effect until the commissioners end it.
