Spencer 50th anniversary

On Dec. 23, 1972, Kenneth “Ken” Wayne Spencer Sr. wed the love of his life, Vada Ann Smith.

Years later, they welcomed their first of three children, Vanessa Ann (Damian) Shepherd, Vallencia Jean (Chad) Stark and Kenneth Wayne (Heather) Spencer Jr.

Over the next 50 years, the couple shares a life of love, compassion, joys, challenges and adventures. Together, the couple enjoys gardening, attending and coaching baseball and softball, going to plays and musicals, dining out and any events of their seven grandchildren.

Ken was born April 24, 1955, to Kenneth Samuel Spencer and Ruby Vernal Pruitt in Columbus. He attended Columbus North High School. He is a 29-year retiree of Nippon Steel Pipe America Inc. in Seymour. He is an avid golfer who has won or placed in many golf league tournaments. It has been said by one of his colleagues, “Ken is one of the best guys I have ever known.” He has been a player and head or assistant coach for baseball and softball throughout his life. He is a devoted husband, father and friend.

Vada was born March 8, 1954, to Bruce and Emma Jean Smith in Columbus. She is a 1971 graduate of Columbus North High School. She is a 30-plus-year pastry chef working for the Holiday Inn bakery and Donuts N Coffee of Columbus. She was the owner and operator of Topper’s Pizza alongside her eldest daughter in Columbus. She enjoys cooking, baking and canning. She is known for the best canned sauerkraut and pickled beets. She is a compassionate wife, mother and friend.
