Braves of the Month for November recognized

BROWNSTOWN — Three Brownstown Central Community School Corp. students were recognized as Students of the Month for November on Monday night during a board of trustees meeting at the administration office.

The three were senior Jayse Davis, seventh-grader Logan Chavarria and kindergartner Karsen Cutter.

Brownstown Central High School Principal Joe Sheffer said Davis was nominated by teachers with the math department.

“Jayse is motivated, reliable, self-disciplined and conscientious in his mathematics studies,” Sheffer said while reading Davis’ nomination letter.

“He is truly intrigued by how different math concepts fit together,” he said. “Jayse tries to look at each math problem from each angle situation, asking ‘Will this work or what if this happens?’ When given a task, he starts working immediately leading the other students in the group. Jayse has displayed the enthusiasm, determination, dedication and discipline necessary to achieve the goals that he seeks in himself for the future.”

Brownstown Central Middle School Principal Doug McClure said Chavarria was selected by the seventh grade teachers as the November Brave of the Month because he consistently models the three R’s at BCMS.

“He is respectful to his teachers and fellow classmates, both inside and outside the classroom,” McClure said while reading Chavarria’s nomination letter.

“Logan’s teachers all agree that he is a pleasure to have in class because he is pleasant, kind and helpful to others,” he said. “If a student needs help with an assignment, he is always willing to help out. Logan also demonstrates responsibility and maturity each day at BCMS. Earning all A’s for the first trimester, Logan excels in the classroom by always participating in class, completing assigned work on time, studying for tests and asking questions when necessary.”

McClure said Chavarria is a resourceful student who consistently finds a way to overcome any challenge he encounters.

“When given a new project or assignment, he is always willing to do his best and go above and beyond what is asked of him,” he said. “Logan proudly represents his school as a member of the BCMS cross-country and track and field teams. He excels at running and consistently displays good sportsmanship.”

McClure added educators sometimes get kids they know are just good kids at heart.

“Logan is one of those kids where you know you can depend upon him and you know he is going to do the right thing every time because it’s the right thing,” he said. “That’s just the kind of kid Logan is.”

Cutter, the Little Brave of the Month for Brownstown Elementary School, was nominated by her teacher, Maria Anderson.

“Karsen Cutter has always been above and beyond our reading expectations in kindergarten,” Principal Marty Young said while reading Cutter’s nomination letter. “She is able to use her letters and sound knowledge to sound out words that aren’t expected in our class. Her classmates know to go to her if they want something read around the room. I am proud of her work ethic, and that helps her succeed.”

Young said in addition to being a good reader for a kindergarten student, Cutter is just an all-around good student to have in the building.

“She comes in every morning with a smile on her face and is ready to learn,” he said. “Karsen is always helpful and friendly to all students and staff throughout the day.”
