Seymour man arrested for child molestation

Officers with the Seymour Police Department arrested a local man Tuesday morning and charged him with felony child molestation after receiving a report he had sex with a 12-year-old girl.

Ramiro Regalado, 19, of Seymour was booked into the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown at 8:14 a.m. that day.

He faces a Level 3 felony count of child molesting. A Level 3 felony carries a sentence ranging from three to 16 years in prison with an advisory sentence of nine years if convicted.

According to the probable cause affidavit, written by city Officer Dakota Burke, police met with the victim on Sunday. She informed them she did not know Regalado and had only messaged him on Snapchat prior to their encounter, police said.

She also told police Regalado came over to her house, where the two talked and eventually had intercourse. The girl told police she disclosed to Regalado that she was 12 years old.

On Tuesday, Detective Mike Henley interviewed Regalado about the incident.

When questioned, police said Regalado told them he did have intercourse with the girl but believed she was 17 at the time.
