Fall festival and food drive planned

Ivy Tech Community College Columbus will host a food drive, fall festival and movie showing in collaboration with Indiana University Purdue University-Columbus and Purdue Polytechnic today at the AirPark Columbus College Campus.

The food drive will last from noon to 6 p.m. with fall festival events from 3 to 6 p.m.

The festival will feature free events for students and community members including pumpkin decorating, trick-or-treating, games, children’s activities and a FAFSA workshop to assist current and new students with filing for financial aid. Anyone attending the FAFAS event will receive a voucher for a free meal to be redeemed at the festival. Concessions also will be available for purchase.

The schools are collecting food and other items for the food driver including microwavable meals, ramen, mac and cheese, canned vegetables, fruit cups, granola bars, pasta and sauce, peanut butter and jelly, snack foods, toothpaste and brushes, deodorant, hand soap, dish soap, detergent, feminine hygiene items, shampoo and conditioner, pens, paper, and notebooks. Items may be dropped off outside the Columbus Learning Center at 4555 Central Ave. Anyone who donates two or more items will receive a food voucher that can be redeemed at the festival.

A free showing of the movie “Hocus Pocus” will begin at 6 p.m. Individuals may bring a blanket or chairs if they plan to attend.
