Teen, three juveniles arrested in pool vandalism

North Vernon police have made an arrest for vandalism to the North Vernon City Park aquatic complex, which was reported Saturday.

Keegan Barnes, 19, of North Vernon was arrested Monday on Level 6 felony charges of criminal trespassing and criminal mischief. Three other juvenile suspects also have been identified.

This is still an active investigation, and further charges could be filed at a later date, said Sgt. Andrew Richmond, spokesman for the North Vernon Police Department.

Police were sent to the park at 604 N. State St., where K-9 Officer Shane Trepanier said motor oil and cat litter had been dumped into the pool area late Friday or early Saturday, Richmond said. Trepanier obtained security camera footage from the incident.

Detectives began taking tips and identifying the suspects.

This led to security camera footage of the potential suspects making a purchase of cat litter and motor oil at a local business approximately an hour before the crime, Richmond said.
