Five arrested after incident early Tuesday

Five Seymour residents were arrested early Tuesday by police investigating a disturbance in which a firearm was displayed on the city’s north side, police report.

The arrests of Derek A. Inman, 41, Karley Elsner, 25, Israel Jacob Jimenez-Santiago, 33, Eduin Fernando Recarte, 31, and Omar Elias Teodosio Salvador, 30, occurred after officers were called to the area of Broadway and Ninth streets, according to a news release from Seymour Police Department Lt. C.J. Foster.

Foster said officers made contact with several individuals in that area who had been looking for a stolen bicycle and had gone to a home on North Broadway Street.

When they arrived at the home, an argument occurred and a weapon was displayed, police said.

Foster said patrol officers were told after the weapon was displayed, it had been taken back in the home.

Police secured the area and obtained a Jackson Superior Court I warrant to search the home for the weapon. During that search, police found drug paraphernalia and obtained a second Jackson Superior Court I warrant to search for drug evidence, Foster said.

During that search, police found the weapon used in the incident along with methamphetamine, marijuana, tables and drug paraphernalia.

The following charges are being requested:

Elsner — possession of a hypodermic syringe or needle, possession of methamphetamine, visiting/maintaining a common nuisance, possession of paraphernalia, possession of marijuana

Inman — possession of a hypodermic syringe or needle, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a schedule II, III, IV controlled substance, possession of paraphernalia, visiting/maintaining a common nuisance, possession of marijuana

Jimenez-Santiago — visiting/maintaining a common nuisance, illegal alien with a firearm, possession of methamphetamine, possession of schedule II, III, IV controlled substance, possession of paraphernalia, possession of a hypodermic syringe or needle

Recarte — illegal alien with a firearm, intimidation, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, visiting/maintaining a common nuisance, pointing a firearm

Salvador — driving while never having received a driver’s license

Foster said the immigration status of Recarte, Jimenez-Santaigo and Salvador remains under investigation.
