Search warrant leads to arrest of two Seymour residents

A man and a woman from Seymour were arrested Wednesday after police developed probable cause and found drugs, a weapon, money and paraphernalia inside a city residence, police report.

Logan Robert Claude Cooley, 26, was arrested on preliminary charges of possession of methamphetamine while possessing a firearm, a Level 5 felony; possession of a hypodermic syringe, a Level 6 felony; possession of a firearm with a domestic battery conviction, a Class A misdemeanor; and possession of marijuana, a Class A misdemeanor.

Sierra Rena Lynn Smith, 25, was arrested for possession of a hypodermic syringe, a Level 6 felony, and possession of marijuana, a Class A misdemeanor.

Seymour Police Department Lt. C.J. Foster said in a news release that on Wednesday, the Jackson County Probation Department requested Seymour police locate an individual who was currently on probation.

Officers were able to locate the individual on East 12th Street, Foster said.

Probable cause was developed by police, and a Jackson Superior Court II search warrant was obtained for the residence.

During the search of the home, Foster said methamphetamine, a 9 mm handgun, marijuana, an undisclosed amount of cash and paraphernalia were located.

In Indiana, a Level 5 felony carries a sentence of one to six years in prison with an advisory sentence of three years if convicted. A Level 6 felony in Indiana means six month to two and a half years in prison with an advisory sentence of one year upon conviction.
