British author coming to Seymour Saturday

British author Kristy Nicolle will be coming to Seymour on Saturday for her first book signing in the United States.

The Magic of Books Bookstore in downtown Seymour is hosting the event in conjunction with 1852 Cafe, 123 W. Second St.

Nicolle will be signing her books from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the cafe with a question-and-answer session taking place prior to the signing. Later that evening, she will be at The Brooklyn Pizza Co., 753 W. Second St., Seymour, for dinner with her readers beginning at 7 p.m.

Bookstore owner Jenna Martinez said Nicolle had some of her books shipped to the bookstore for the signing.

“The dinner at Brooklyn Pizza will just be a chance for her to hang out with her readers,” Martinez said. “Some are traveling really far to see her, so she wants to give them time to actually hang out instead of just a 5-minute exchange during a signing. She really loves and appreciates her readers.”

Martinez said it will be an amazing event. Readers can come and grab their autographed copies and swag.

During a question-and-answer session, Nicolle will talk about her Queens of Fantasy Saga and other works.

Nicolle, 28, lives in Norwich, Norfolk, England, and writes fantasy romance, dystopian and poetry.

She has a total of 15 published books, including box sets, short stories, novellas and poetry collections. Her latest novel is “Lavender Storm,” which is the third book in the Aetherial Embrace Trilogy.

“I’m currently working on a 10-book fantasy romance series called The Queens of Fantasy Saga, consisting of three trilogies that all collide in a final 10th book,” Nicolle said. “In this final 10th installment that is anticipated for release in 2024, the characters and worlds come together.”

“Lavender Storm” is book nine of the fantasy saga and concludes the third and final trilogy in the series that takes place in a mystical dimension of floating continents, dragons, angels, fae and unicorns and is twisted heavily with Greek mythology.

“The main character, Kairi Freemont, suffers from Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, a connective tissue disorder which we both share,” Nicolle said. “Ehlers-Danlos syndrome is extremely rare and the reason I became an author, as I was unable to work a regular job, so I’m super excited to spread awareness.”

Many readers who will be arriving from out of state have preordered their copies prior to the event, but she will have stock of her back list on hand for people looking to dive in, she said.

“I am currently in the U.S. staying with a bestie, who I met through my books, in Ohio, but am traveling to Indiana for the signing on June 4,” Nicolle said. “This isn’t my first time in the U.S., though it is my first time in Ohio and the northeast region in general, and I’m loving it.”

Nicolle has been enjoying Middlefield in Ohio and has found the Amish culture here fascinating and the people beyond welcoming.

“I’ve also enjoyed my first cookout and bonfire with a close friend and longtime reader, who also gave me the pleasure of my first S’more,” she said. “Can I also talk about sweet tea because honestly, as an English person, I can’t believe we don’t have this. It’s the bomb.”

Nicolle said she and Martinez have been planning this book signing event for four years, but COVID-19 got in the way a bit. Now, she is very excited it’s finally going to happen.

She initially reached out to Martinez about six years ago during the promotional phase of her first book, “The Kiss That Killed Me,” which is a mermaid fantasy romance.

”She ran a blog at the time, and we stayed friends online after that for years. Then she came to me and told me she wanted to fulfill her dream of opening a bookstore, and I couldn’t encourage her enough,” Nicolle said. “Skip forward and here we are, and I’m so proud of her and everything she has achieved, both personally and professionally, with The Magic of Books.”
