Seymour captures 6th in a row

Seymour’s baseball team scored four runs in the sixth inning to break open a close game and defeat Eastern (Pekin) 8-2 Monday at American legion Field.

The Owls took a 2-0 lead in the first when Vince Wilson singled and scored on a hit by Aiden Darlage, and Darlage scored on an error.

Jack Pennington singled in the second and scored on a sacrifice fly by Charlie Longmeier, and Treyton McCormick singled in the fifth and scored on an error.

In the sixth, Pennington walked, Wilson singled and was replaced by pinch-runner Andrew Levine, and Longmeier walked to load the bases. Darlage sent a drive over the centerfielder’s head to clear the bases. That gave Darlage 33 RBIs for the season.

Skylar Cockerham singled to drive in Darlage as the Owls won their sixth straight game.

Wilson had three hits, Darlage had two, and Pennington, McCormick, Cockerham and Bret Perry had one hit each.

Brandon Richey pitched the first five innings and had five strike outs, two walks and he allowed five hits and two runs. Brady Harpe pitched the final two innings and had one strike out.

The Owls (18-9) will face Bedford North Lawrence at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Jennings County Sectional.

Braves beat Austin

The Brownstown baseball team ended its regular season on a positive note, beating Austin 10-5 at home on Monday in a nonconference game.

Ethan Garland led the team with three hits, Carson Darlage had two and Chick Tiemeyer, Ethan Fultz, Ethan Davis and Dalton Reedy all had one hit. Garland also had three RBI while Tiemeyer, Fultz, Davis and Reedy each had one RBI.

Pierson Wheeler pitched 3.2 innings and struck out seven, Deven Cummings pitched 1.1 innings and had three strikeouts, Fultz pitched one winning and had one K, and Trent Lowery pitched one inning and had three K’s.

The Braves will head to Madison on Wednesday for a sectional matchup against Silver Creek.

Golf

Braves shoot best 9-hole score

The Brownstown boys golf team hosted East Washington on Monday and picked up a 168-243 victory.

A 168 is the best 9-hole team score Brownstown has had this season.

Caiden Gwin was the medalist in the match with a round of 39. Chandler Stahl, Matthew Reedy and Smith Hackman each shot 43s and Elix Preston shot a 45.

Connor Gwin shot a 47, Caden Waskom 49, Carson Darlage 52, Jaren Cunningham 54, Cole Brelage 54, Colton Hallow 56, Bryce Peak 56, Logan Baker 57 and Tucker Tormoehlen 58.

The Braves will play again at Mitchell today at 4:30 p.m.
