Seymour police warn of counterfeit $10 bills

The Seymour Police Department recently received counterfeit bills in the $10 denomination around the city.

These are slightly unusual, as it is a lower currency amount. The majority of counterfeit money is $20 and above, and very few people scrutinize smaller bills, the department said in a Facebook post. These are created bills and not “washed” U.S. currency.

From a few feet, these bills appear genuine, and the paper is relatively similar in feel but not durability, police said.

This batch is purposely weathered and contains the following indicators: Rips and tears easily, missing the internal strip, nonreflective check ink, ink runs when wetted, watermark missing, edge wrinkles and tears copied into the bill, microprinting unreadable, borders and edges have fuzzy ink and fails counterfeit pen test.

The serial number is MC 06192948B, and police believe whoever is making these counterfeit bills is cranking out large quantities from a color printer.

If any of the fake bills are located, report it to the police department. The police station is at 205 N. Ewing St., Seymour, and the phone number is 812-522-1234.
