A 61-year-old Jackson County man died in a single-vehicle crash Thursday night west of Brownstown, police report.
Jeffrey L. Owens of Freetown was pronounced dead by Jackson County Deputy Coroner Michael Hogg at the scene of the wreck in the 3800 block of West County Road 150N, according to a news release from Jackson County Sheriff Rick Meyer.
Jackson County Sheriff’s Department officers Alan Jones and Cy Moss responded to a 911 call about the crash at 8:22 p.m. along a stretch of that road, which also is known as Slab Road. They were joined by personnel with Jackson County Emergency Medical Services and the Brownstown Volunteer Fire Department.
When first responders arrived at the scene, they discovered a white 2005 Dodge Caravan had left the roadway and rolled over.
Meyer said Owens had been partially ejected from the vehicle, which he had been driving west on County Road 150N. The accident occurred when he lost control of the vehicle in a curve just east of State Road 135, Meyer said.
Lt. Adam Nicholson with the sheriff’s department said St. Vincent StatFlight emergency medical services initially was contacted to provide a helicopter at the scene but was disregarded due to the discovery of a fatality.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
