Brownstown handles Hatchet House

The Brownstown boys basketball team went on the road Thursday night to take on Washington at the famous Hatchet House, and the Braves had no problem handling the hostile environment.

Brownstown rolled to a 71-49 victory to improve to 15-3 this season.

Jack Benter had another 30 piece, dropping 32 points on the night. Carter Waskom added 18 points, Jakob Arthur and Aiden Schroer each scored six points, Parker Hehman had four, and Carson Darlage and Adam Stahl each had two.

Brownstown actually trailed 18-16 at the end of the first quarter, but it didn’t take them long to take back the lead. The Braves won the second quarter 24-16 to take a 40-34 lead at halftime.

In the second half, Brownstown held Washington single digit points in both the third and fourth quarters to really pull away and secure the 22-point victory.

Brownstown will have a quick turnaround tonight as the Braves take on Bedford North Lawrence at home.

Trinity falls to Greenwood Christian

The Trinity boys basketball team went on the road Thursday night to Greenwood Christian, but the Cougars struggled to get the offensive going, dropping the game 53-32.

Mitchell Hackman led the Cougars with seven points, Jacob Conrad and Sage Broughton each scored six, Jacob Sabotin and Caleb Williams each scored three, and Eli Ballard and Kade Hill each scored two.

Trinity, now 8-11 on the season, will return to action again on Tuesday night when the Cougars play host to Edinburgh.

Swimming and diving

Seymour gets two wins

The Seymour boys swimming and diving team took care of business on Wednesday night when the Owls hosted Providence and Henryville.

The Owls scored 131 points while Providence had 40 and Henryville 29.

First-placed finishes for the Owls featured Will Proffer in both the 200 freestyle (2:09.28) and 500 freestyle (5:50.95), Caden Harriss in the 100 backstroke (1:07.46), Pedro Cerino Rico in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.00), Grant Smith in the 200 IM (2:27.95) and Kaleb Brown in the 1-meter dive (157.70).

All three of Seymour’s relay teams took home first place as well. In the 200 freestyle relay, the team of Smith, Wes Proffer Larry Simons and Clayton Greenawalt won in 1:40.62. In the 400 freestyle relay, Smith, Will Proffer, Will Cottrill and Paul Montomgery finished first in 3:48.43. Finally, in the 200 yard medley relay, the quartet of Cerino Rico, Cottrill, Greenawalt and Montgomery won in 1:49.36.

Next up for the Seymour boys swimming team will be sectionals on Feb. 17 and 19 at Floyd Central High School.
