SMS band students participate in solo and ensemble contest

Members of the Seymour Middle School seventh and eighth grade bands participated in the Indiana State School Music Association Solo and Ensemble Contest on Jan. 29 at Columbus East High School.

For seventh grade, participating in the solo event and receiving gold ratings were Kayelee Jackson (flute), Noemi Sebastian (flute), Vivian Newkirk (flute), Macey Moss (clarinet), Cash McNeely (trumpet), Oliver Lanam (trumpet), Cohen Tedrow (baritone), Kayla Martinez (snare) and Olivia Wilp (snare).

Receiving a silver rating was Sharon Juarez (clarinet).

Participating in the ensemble event and receiving a gold rating were Hayden Alcorn, Kayla Martinez, Olivia Wilp, Mia Arrona, Jackson Charlton, Ryan Goss, Eli Reasoner and Garrison Redlin (percussion).

Receiving a silver rating were George Walls, Ashton Canaday and Colton Gabbard (alto saxophone trio).

For eighth grade, participating in the solo event and receiving gold ratings were Estefani Perez (flute), Nancy Baltazar (clarinet), Nancy Baltazar (bassoon), Zack Sturgill (trombone) and Briana Gomez (snare).

Participating in ensembles and receiving gold ratings were Estefani Perez, Alexis Richart and Andrea Pascual (flute trio), Ashley Collins, Lyndsey Greenawalt and Anna Obermeyer (French horn trio), Tori Evans, Josh Hess and Brandon Martinez (trombone trio) and Christian Cuevas, Angel Garcia, Briana Gomez, Nolan Keyes, Harley Koons, Cohl Moore, Savanna Moore, Shunsuke Takeuchi and Delaney Warren (percussion).

Both bands are directed by Luke Horton, Kyle Lutes, and Debbie Carroll.
