Hollingsworth decides against running for re-election

Indiana Ninth District Congressman Trey Hollingsworth of Jeffersonville announced his decision to not seek a fourth term on social media Wednesday afternoon.

Hollingsworth, who is 38, has served the district, which includes Jackson County and 17 other counties, since 2017.

Here’s the text of his statement on Facebook:

“As I contemplate how I can work for you in new and better ways in the future, I won’t run for reelection this year. You deserve a Member of Congress totally and completely focused on the 9th District, and, though I have remained committed to that promise these three terms, now I will fight for you and us in different ways.”

Hollingsworth, born in Clinton, Tennessee, also referred readers to an inclusive interview he gave to the Indianapolis Star for more information about his decision.
