Two out-of-state residents were arrested Monday after separate traffic stops led to the discovery of multiple types of illegal drugs on Interstate 65 near Seymour, police report.
The first stop at about 11 a.m. near the 50 mile marker netted the arrest of Tony Carl Jackson, 63, of Musk-egon, Michigan, on preliminary felony charges of possession of cocaine while in possession of a firearm and possession of a narcotic drug while in possession of a firearm, according to a news release from Sgt. Stephen Wheeles with the Indiana State Police Versailles Post.
He also faces misdemeanor charges of possession of a handgun without a permit, possession of paraphernalia and possession of marijuana, said Wheeles, who is the post’s public information officer.
Jackson was arrested after Trooper Randel Miller reported he had been passed in the southbound lanes by a Mercedes traveling near 100 mph, Wheeles said.
After stopping the vehicle, Miller’s K-9, Jinx, alerted to an odor of illegal drugs coming from the vehicle. During a search of the vehicle, police found suspected heroin, cocaine, marijuana and two firearms, Wheeles said.
Jackson was arrested and booked into the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown at 12:58 p.m. and was being held without bond pending his initial hearing.
The second investigation led to the arrest of Nabeel J. Husari, 29, of Springfield, Tennessee, on preliminary felony charges of dealing in schedule I, II or III substances and possession of controlled substances, Wheeles said. He also faces misdemeanor charges of possession of paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.
Husari’s arrest occurred during a stop initiated by Miller for a traffic infraction on southbound I-65 near the 50 mile marker at about 2:30 p.m., Wheeles said.
Jinx alerted to an odor of illegal drugs coming from the Toyota Corolla Husari had been driving, police reported. During a search of the vehicle, police found suspected ecstasy, MDMA, LSD, psychedelic mushrooms, ketamine, marijuana, paraphernalia and more than $600 in U.S. currency, Wheeles said.
Husari was booked into the Jackson County Jail at 4:35 p.m. and was being held without bond pending his initial hearing in circuit court.
