A North Vernon contractor recently received contracts totaling nearly $1.8 million for street and road work for the city of Seymour in the spring.
The contracts granted to Dave O’Mara Contractors by the board of public works and safety call for the company to reconstruct Phillips Lane between Garden Avenue and Evergreen Drive at a cost of $658,572.
The company also will patch, mill and resurface 20 streets and roads at a cost of $1,228,539. The total bid was $1,787,102.96.
Half of the work will be funded through a $839,551.48 Community Crossings Matching Grant received from the state in early December. The Seymour Redevelopment Commission will fund the other half.
“As you guys are aware, RDC covers a big chunk of this, and they did commit to providing funding for this one and also gave permission for next year when the CCMG funding comes around,” Mayor Matt Nicholson told the board. Nicholson is president of the board.
The city received four bids for the work and opened them Dec. 9. Other companies bidding on the projects and their bids were All-Star Paving, $2,157,675.18; Milestone Contractors, $2,693,506.54; and Lawyer Construction, which only bid on the concrete reconstruction on Phillips Lane, $634,742.29.
