As the bad news keeps getting worse

Christmas is not about Rudolph, Santa, Frosty or the Grinch. Christmas is all about Jesus.

“But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.’” ( Luke 2:10 ) Christmas brings the great news that a savior has been born. That’s fantastic news for all of us. It’s the best news we could ever hope for.

As the bad news in our world keeps getting worse and worse, the good news of the Gospel keeps getting better and better. Have you noticed the contrast between what you see on television and online news and what you read in the Bible? Secular news is draining and depressing. The focus is typically on the negative, even though some news organizations try to finish their broadcast with one positive or uplifting story.

But the good news of Christmas and the message of the Gospel is positive and life-changing. It is a message that has never changed. It is a message that cannot be improved upon. It is a message of hope, and the promise of the future is bright.

The Christmas message reminds us that we matter to God. Think about it. God knows everything there is to know about us — the good, the bad and the ugly. The good news is he still loves us. We matter to him. He cares about us on the deepest level possible. Even though he knows everything about us, he has still chosen to love us with an unconditional love. God does not say, “I will love you if…” or “I will love you when…” He says, “I love you…” period.

Be reminded this Christmas, God knows who you are. He knows where you are. He knows what is going on in your life right now. Regardless of the circumstances of your birth, you are not an accident. God has a plan and a purpose for your life. Meaning and satisfaction come to our lives when we discover God’s purpose and get begin to fulfill it.

Christmas is the incredible reminder that God wants us to know him as much as he knows us. That’s why he sent Jesus Christ to this Earth 2,000 years ago. God wanted to let us know what he’s like. He desires to have a relationship with us. And in coming to Earth, he made that relationship possible. I think that is great news.
