Local businessman earns Retailer of the Year award

The Indiana Association of Beverage Retailers has announced Cork Liquors General Manager Travis Scheidt has been selected as the 2021 Retailer of the Year.

Each fall, IABR recognizes one outstanding member as the IABR Retailer of the Year. Winners of this award demonstrate a strong commitment to the industry, an understanding of the importance of promoting responsible retailing of age-restricted products and go above and beyond with respect to customer service, according to a news release from IABR.

Nominations open during summer, and the winner is announced each fall at the IABR annual meeting.

“I am extremely pleased that a peer in the industry nominated Travis and that the committee selected him as the winner of this award,” said Gretchen White, executive director of IABR. “He certainly has gone above and beyond at Cork Liquors for many years and has also demonstrated a strong commitment to the overall industry with his work with IABR. Previous winners are examples of the best and smartest retailers in the industry and excited to see it continue with Travis on the list.”

Scheidt previously served as chairman of the IABR board of directors and currently is general manager of Cork Liquors.

“It was a surprise and such an honor to receive this award,” he said. “There are so many great people in this industry that go above and beyond that are deserving, so I’m very grateful to have been chosen.”

His father, Warren Scheidt, serves as treasurer of IABR. He also is the owner of his three generationally owned family business, Cork Liquors, which has grown to 14 locations serving the Columbus, Shelbyville, Edinburgh, Seymour and Greensburg areas.

“I am very proud of Travis and what he has accomplished for the members of IABR during these last two very challenging years,” Warren said.
