It was a good day for the Crothersville girls track and field team on Thursday as they placed second at their conference meet at Borden. The Tigers were second with 98 points, behind Borden at 171.

Kaylyn Holman had a big day, taking first place in three events. She won the 800 with a 2:37.06, 1600 with a 5:33.72 and 3200 with a 12:27.97.

Holman and the 4×8 team of Ella Plasse, Kennadi Lakins and Zoe Spangler were second with a 12:09.20.

Lakins was second in the long jump (13’11”), won the high jump (4’8”) and was third in the 100 (14.86).

Kiarra Lakins was fifth in the 300 hurdles, and Shea Reynolds and Kaylee Caudill both placed top eight in the shot put and discus.

As for the boys, Crothersville took fifth place with seven points.

David Rose and Elijah Plasse went fifth and eighth in the mile, respectively, and Rose finished seventh in the two mile. Timothy Hodge was sixth in the shot put and seventh in the discus.

Brownstown boys tie for third in conference meet

The Brownstown boys track and field team finished tied-for-third overall on Thursday night at the Mid-Southern Conference championships at Corydon.

The Braves shared a team score of 64 with Charlestown. Corydon won the meet with a score of 146.50.

In the discus, Dustyn Kocsis and Brayden Millick placed second and third with throws of 132’0” and 126’10”, respectively. Kocsis finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 40’0”.

Caleb Cummings was fourth in the 100 with a time of 12.12, and Garrett Driver was fourth in the 400 with a PR time of 54.72.

Thad Goecker finished sixth in the 110 hurdles with a PR time of 18.22. Teammate Isiaah Engle was right behind him in seventh place with also a PR time of 18.38. Engle was second in the 300 hurdles, also running a PR of 45.21. Goecker was seventh in that event with a PR time of 47.30.

Traven Wellman, despite not finishing in the top eight to score points, ran a PR in the 1600 with a 5:14.82. Wellman also ran a PR in the 3200, placing eighth with a 11:17.72. Andrew Wheeles was similar in the 800, running a PR of 2:18.62, and Jayden Steinkamp PR’ed in the long jump with a 15’9.75”.

Softball

Brownstown defeats North Harrison

The Braves rolled to victory on the road on Thursday night, defeating North Harrison 12-1.

Erin Singleton had 3 hits, 3 runs and 2 RBI; Kelsey Schneider had 2 hits, 1 run and 1 RBI; Alli Reynolds had 1 run and 1 RBI; Rylee May had 2 hits, 1 run and 3 RBI; Addyson Coomer had 1 run; Rehgen Stuckwisch had 1 hit and 2 RBI; Rylin Huddleston had 3 hits; Adelynn Anderson had 2 runs; Zoe Stuckwisch had 2 hits and 2 runs; and Emily Singleton had 1 run.

Huddleston was on the mound for the Braves, pitching all five innings and allowing 3 hits and 1 run while striking out three batters.

Brownstown will be back in action again on Saturday for a doubleheader at Trinity Lutheran, starting at 10 a.m.

Baseball

Brownstown falls to Charlestown

The bats couldn’t get going for the Braves on Thursday night at Charlestown, losing 4-1.

Nathan Koch had 1 hit; Cole Darlage had 1 hit and 1 run; Kiernan Tiemeyer had 1 hit and 1 RBI; and Braden Schulz had 1 hit.

Ethan Davis pitched five innings for the Braves and allowed 5 hits and 1 run while striking out six batters. Koch and Ethan Fultz both pitched in the bottom of the sixth, where Charlestown got 3 runs to pull away.

Brownstown will be back in action on Saturday for a doubleheader at Borden, starting at 11 a.m.

Golf

Trinity places third

Trinity Lutheran’s boys golf team shot a 200 to place third in a three-way golf match Thursday.

Jennings County and Hauser both shot 192, and the Panthers were awarded the win based on the fifth players’ scores.

Jacob Sabotin was low for Trinity with a 41, Kade Hill shot 47, Caleb Williams 55 and Preston Kovener 57.
