Cougars get big win over Braves

It was a hot start for Trinity Lutheran on Friday night when the Cougars took on Brownstown Central on the diamond.

Trinity put up six runs in the first two innings while Jack Marksberry held the Braves scoreless.

In addition to his performance on the mound, Marksberry had the big hit in the game. In the top of the second inning, he blasted a grand slam to give the Cougars the early six-run advantage.

It was his only hit on the night. Peyton Pollert, Evan Hunt, Sage Broughton and Nathan Voelker each had one hit in the game, as well, while Jake Mau led the team with two hits.

Marksberry pitched all seven innings, only allowing three hits and three walks en route to striking out 11 and earning the win as Trinity defeated Brownstown 7-2.

It was supposed to be a doubleheader between the two schools, but the second game was canceled due to the incoming forecast. Trinity head coach Ben Kleber said they are working on a date to reschedule the second game.

Trinity (7-5) will look to build off this momentum when it plays again at 6 p.m. today against Scottsburg.
