Relying primarily on four high scorers, the Trinity Lutheran boys basketball team won its last home game of the regular season Tuesday night.

The Cougars unleashed 47 points in the second half to pull away from Charlestown and capture an 80-67 decision at the Bollinger Athletic Complex.

Senior guard Tyler Goecker fired in 21 points, junior Hackman added 20 points, senior Jack Marksberry hit for 17 and sophomore Hudson Norton also scored 17 points for the Cougars.

They totaled 22 points in the third period and 25 in the fourth to break open their 33-31 lead at halftime.

“We played very hard tonight,” said Trinity coach Ryan Crase. “The first half our offense was stagnant, but in the second half we moved the ball really well. We cut hard and got a lot of wide-open shots.”

Tightening up defense helped, too.

“We also played much better help-side defense in the fourth quarter,” he said. “It was a good win against a talented team.”

The explosive group was the difference-maker for the 8-13 Cougars, who have one regular-season game remaining at Southwestern Shelbyville Friday night before sectional play begins against Crothersville March 2.

Charlestown is now 7-10.

The other Trinity scorers were Jacob Sabotin with 4 points and Sage Broughton with 1 point.
