Guard Cable Spall pumped in 26 points Saturday afternoon and inched closer to a career total of 1,000 points, but his Crothersville boys basketball team could not stay with visiting Spring Valley.

The visiting Blackhawks powered away for a 74-46 victory after the first quarter stayed fairly close. The Tigers are now 3-14. Springs Valley is 7-12.

It was 19-11 Springs Valley after one period, but the lead shot out to 38-18 at halftime and it was 57-34 after three quarters.

Spall, a senior, moved to within 24 points of reaching the 1,000-point milestone with three games scheduled this week and five regular-season games remaining (all on the road) before sectional play.

Springs Valley countered with four double-figure scorers and dominance on the backboards.

“We got out-rebounded 46-18,” said Crothersville coach Bobby Riley, “Springs Valley had 24 offensive rebounds and we had three. Until we learn to box out when rebounding, we will struggle.”

In addition to Spall, Crothersville got a strong performance from Dominic Stevens, Stevens was a significant contributor.

“Cable Spall had another really good night with 26 and senior Dominic Stevens had his best game with 10 points and 6 rebounds.

Spall also had 4 assists.

Springs Valley was led by Kannon Chase with 18 points, Mason Chaplin with 12, Desmond Jones with 11 and Carter Crews, also with 11.

Besides the two double-figure scorers, Crothersville received 5 points from Jacob Moeller, 3 from Zach Helt, and 2 from Matthew Clouse.
