Mary Lou Tormoehlen, age 85, of Vallonia, passed away on Tuesday, January 26, 2021, at Schneck Medical Center, Seymour.

Mrs. Tormoehlen was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wegan.

Mary Lou was a homemaker and a member of the Country Pride Extension Homemakers Club. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and loved cooking family dinners for the entire family. She also enjoyed quilting and loved hummingbirds.

Born on February 22, 1935, in Letcher County (Kingdom Come), Kentucky, she was the daughter of Alma Jones and Lansford Fields and Bill and Grace Caudill, all of whom preceded her in death. On October 25, 1953, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wegan, she married Wayne Tormoehlen and he preceded her in death on July 6, 2017.

Survivors include one daughter, Carol Ann (James) Franklin of Vallonia; three sons: John (Brenda) Tormoehlen, Marty (Diane) Tormoehlen, and Randy Tormoehlen, all of Vallonia; and siblings: Phyllis, Jerome, Merle, Ramona, Betty, Robert and Lovette; eight grandchildren: Angie (Kyle) Kerkhof, Barry (Christina) Franklin, Brooke (John) Cahill, Brandon (Mallory) Tormoehlen, Jaclyn (Nathan) Jackson, Whitney (Kagney) Fritz, Michael (Autumn) Tormoehlen, and Shane (Katie) Tormoehlen; 18 great-grandchildren: Hannah and Drew Kerkhof, Marisa and Brady Franklin, Madeline and Hank Cahill, Carolina Tormoehlen, Annalise, Isaac and Silas Jackson, Garrison, Graham, and Gustus Fritz, Jillian and Emma Tormoehlen, and Bryce, Kinley and Payton Tormoehlen; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her siblings: Billy, Darrell, Delmas, Kenneth, Bobby, Loreva, Linda, Emma, Alpha, Elbert, Edgar, Minnie, John, Marie, Lucinda, Reva, Thumbelisa, Sarah, Faye, Casey and Charlie.

Funeral services for Mary Lou Tormoehlen will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 29, 2021, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wegan, with Pastor Martin Keller officiating. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 28, 2021, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 29, 2021, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wegan. Due to the Covid 19 Pandemic, Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc. will be practicing social distancing according to CDC guidelines. Masks are required when entering the funeral home for visitation and when entering the church for the funeral services.

Interment will be at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Old Wegan Cemetery.
